Tsibi Geva: Paintings and SIBERIA in the Eyes of Russian Photographers (Updated 10/28/13)

11:00 am – 4:00 pm, Tuesday, December 10 (2013), Katzen Museum Third Floor Exhibition

  • Export to my Calendar

Tsibi Geva has had numerous one-person shows in various institutions, including The Israel Museum, Jerusalem; the Tel Aviv Museum of Art; Haifa Museum of Art; the ICA, Boston; and Espacio Aglutinador, Havana, Cuba. Critic Nuit Banai writes: "Since the early 1980s, Tsibi Geva has been interrogating the paradox-riven myths and national symbols that construct Israeli identity in an aesthetic language whose fidelity to abstraction is persistently problematized." Curated by Barry Schwabsky and sponsored by the Schir Foundation.

SIBERIA in the Eyes of Russian Photographers presents unknown Siberia as photographed by Russians. These photographs, many shown in the West for the first time, span more than 150 years, between the 1860s and 2011. This is a history of Siberia and a history of photography all in one. A book published by Prestel will coincide with the opening of the exhibition. The exhibition is organized by the Foundation for International Arts & Education, and curated by Leah Bendavid-Val. National Geographic, American University's Initiative for Russian Culture, and The Russian Union of PhotoArtists and PhotoSoyz Agency, supports the exhibition.
