Christopher Tudge, PhD
Adjunct Professor and CAS Science & Math Coordinator

I am primarily a reproductive biologist with particular interests in the reproductive biology of invertebrates. My research focuses on the reproductive cells and associated structures, evolutionary mechanisms, and reproductive behaviors of marine decapod crustaceans. I also have experience dealing with other invertebrate and vertebrate groups and my knowledge of reproduction in crustaceans can be directly applied to other taxa. I use this interest in crustacean reproduction to investigate the evolutionary history (phylogeny) of particular crabs in the marine environment. Using computer aided cladistic methodologies, the data gleaned from investigations of reproductive structures, and molecular sequences can be used to reconstruct ancestral conditions and behaviors and to propose trees of relationship among various taxa. I have additional interests in the taxonomy, systematics, and biogeography of marine crustaceans, with emphasis on anomuran crabs (hermit crabs and their relatives), and the evolution of deep sea hydrothermal vent faunas.
