American University supports Teach for America through its partnership with The New Teacher Project to offer Master degree options to TFA corps members, alumni and staff. TFA affiliated participants will be able to choose from degrees in the School of Education (SOE). These programs include flexible course delivery, a cohort based design, and discounted tuition, and are designed to meet the needs of working professionals.



Overview of Program Options

To Apply

The priority deadline to apply for fall enrollment is Feb 1 and the 2nd deadline is March 1. Applications are accepted and processed on a rolling admissions basis until cohorts are filled. The application process for TFA corps members, alumni and staff include the submission of:

  • Click here to complete the online application form;

  • Official transcripts (sealed) from any institutions previously attended;

  • Special Education and MAT candidates must submit passing scores on the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Education Exam (CORE) electronically to American University (code: 5007);
  • a Letter of Intent (which is included in the online application) written by the applicant related to his or her background and career interests.

SOE will waive the application fee and the letters of recommendation requirement. TFA corps members should have had at least one full year of full time teaching experience at the time of enrollment.

--American University will waive 6 credits for TFA affiliated participants for their teaching in public schools for the MAT and MA programs.

--TFA affiliated participants are offered up to 6 credits for their work in the TFA Academy.

**The Bilingual Education program is currently under review and no new students will be admitted to this program in academic year 2016-2017.

*All fees listed above are estimations and may vary depending on the number of cohort participant enrollments and actual increases in annual tuition.
