American University’s School of Education in the College of Arts and Sciences is committed to the continued development of public educators in the Washington DC community. In this tradition, American University has designed a teacher training grant program to assist teaching professionals in gaining new expertise and obtaining academic credentials without formally enrolling in a degree program.
The Tuition Grant Program for DC Public and Public Charter School Teachers, provides DC public educators the unique opportunity of enrolling in up to twelve credit hours of non-degree course work at the graduate or undergraduate level. Grant recipients are financially responsible for only half of the regular publicized tuition rate for each course, with American University matching the remaining fifty percent. The Program is available to active, as well as furloughed and substitute DC public and public charter school teachers.
Under the provisions of the Tuition Grant Program for DC Public and Public Charter School Teachers, qualified participants who meet specified course pre-requisites, are eligible to enroll in any undergraduate or graduate level class. This opportunity is made available to non-degree students only. Students in degree programs are not eligible for this grant program. A maximum of twelve credit hours may be transferable into a degree program at a later date if all course requirements are met and the student achieves a satisfactory grade.
Participation in the grant program does not automatically guarantee acceptance into a degree program. Students must meet all admission standards and apply for admission to the graduate degree program through the Graduate Admissions Office in the College of Arts and Sciences.
