Admission to the program with Columbia University is guaranteed if a student successfully completes all of the following requirements:
The candidate must be enrolled full-time at an American University for at least the past two years.
The candidate who entered American University prior to fall 2011 must achieve the minimum (i.e. 3.00) overall and pre-engineering GPA at American University. Candidates entering American University after fall 20ll must achieve the minimum (i.e. 3.30) overall and pre-engineering GPA at American University.
The candidate completes both the foundational coursework and the major-specific coursework at American University by the end of the spring semester of application.
All courses and course credit must be noted on the transcript from American University. Students must submit official transcripts of all institutions attended.
The candidate must complete the degree and major requirements of American University by the end of the spring semester of application.
The candidate must submit three favorable letters of recommendation: one each from the program director, a science instructor, and a math instructor.
For students entering American University in/after fall 2011: A candidate whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency as directed by Columbia.
Applicants who do not meet the above criteria may apply to the program with Columbia University, but admission is not guaranteed and students will be considered in their competitive review process. The requirements of guaranteed admission are used as guidelines for this review process.
