Overview of Undergraduate Programs
The BA in Environmental Studies consists of a core and a set of related courses. The core provides a solid foundation based on the natural sciences as well as the social sciences. The student then builds upon the core by choosing from an approved list of related courses spanning many disciplines including courses in the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of International Service, and the School of Public Affairs. A careful choice of related courses, made in consultation with a faculty advisor, will allow the student to tailor a program of study suited to his or her specific interests and professional goals.

Each student in the program is also encouraged to gain practical field experience through an internship or independent research at one or more of the public and private environmental organizations in the Washington, DC vicinity, such as the Environmental Protection Agency, Smithsonian Institution, National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, American Rivers, and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (see Internships page for more information).

We offer the following degrees:
  • BA in Environmental Studies: 60 credit hours with grades of C or better. For a checklist of courses, click here
