Additional Information: Daniel E. Abraham, director of choral activities, conducts the American University Chorus and the Chamber Singers and teaches courses in music history, theory and appreciation. He is a frequent clinician, adjudicator, and festival jurist. A specialist in performance and practice of eighteenth-century music, he is also music and artistic director of the Bach Sinfonia, a period-instrument ensemble dedicated to baroque and classical period music.The Washington Post and others have praised his artistry and performances as having "uncommon precision and exuberant vitality" and "keen insight and coherence." As a conductor and musicologist, he "blended those skills marvelously in a program that combined learning with enjoyment in ideal proportions." He has conducted various performances at the Kennedy Center, Strathmore Center, the National Women's Museum of the Arts, the National Cathedral, and twice before national meetings of the American Musicological Society. Broadcast credits include choral preparation for the Kennedy Center Honors Gala on PBS; the chorus master for national broadcasts of Christmas in Washington on TNT, as well as an appearance on the PBS series History Detectives. Abraham was the 1996 recipient of the Lowens Award for excellence in musicological research and the 1998 recipient of the Daniel Pomeroy Prize given by the American Handel Society for Performance and Scholarship in Eighteenth-Century Music. He is president-elect for the Maryland/District of Columbia chapter of the American Choral Directors Association.
