- Lucy Gettman is Director of Federal Programs for the National School Boards Association (NSBA). In addition to lobbying on behalf of education and 90,000 local school board members, Gettman serves on the Board of Directors for Women in Government Relations, Inc. Prior to NSBA, Gettman was Director of Government Relations for a national association of reading teachers, from which she received the Reading Recovery Teacher Leader Award in 2009. She also held professional positions at the Ohio House of Representatives, the Ohio Attorney and the Inter-University Council of Ohio. Gettman earned a Graduate Certificate in Women, Politics and Political Leadership from the Women and Politics Institute at American University, during which she received the Outstanding Graduate Paper award two years in a row. Gettman celebrates the fact that 44% of local school board members are women, putting school boards closer to gender parity than most locations of political leadership.
