- Sybil E. Gohari, PhD, is an art historian specializing in 20th century art of the United States, with a particular focus on the correlation of race and gender to the critical, market and academic success of artists. Her dissertation, Through the Looking Glass: Race and Gender in the Reception of Paintings by Helen Frankenthaler, Norman Lewis, Alma Thomas, and Mark Tobey, analyzes the artists’ critical, academic, and market reception. Dr. Gohari will present papers at the Southeastern College Art Conference and the Feminist Art History Conference (American University) this fall.
