Profile

Dana Hercbergs

Postdoctoral Fellow in Israel Studies
Department of History

  • I earned my doctorate in Folklore and Folklife from the University of Pennsylvania. My dissertation, "Narratives in a Divided City: Childhood and Memory in Jerusalem, 1948-2008," examined salient themes as well as dynamics of time and space in Israeli and Palestinian residents' narratives about growing up in Jerusalem. My ongoing research focuses on Arab and Jewish relations and identities, and in the ways that notions of homeland and diaspora are expressed in narrative genres such as tourism and film, as well as in the material culture of cities.
