Additional Positions at AU
In 2013, after having led the library's instruction programming for six years, Alex became the University Library's associate director for instruction and research services. Alex holds a secondary appointment within AU's School of Education (SOE), where he serves as the SOE librarian and affiliate associate professor. Alex teaches courses on educational technology or children's literature each semester in SOE's teacher education programs.
Alex joined the American University faculty in 2004 after previously working within library systems at the National Gallery of Art, the University of Maryland, College Park, and at the University of Florida. Alex earned tenure and promotion in 2011, and has served as a member of the Faculty Senate. His additional academic background in TESOL assists campus-wide efforts to teach international students about American standards of academic integrity and scholarly communication.
Alex is a beginning doctoral student in curriculum and instruction, with a specialization in educational technology at the University of Florida's College of Education. His research aims to investigate how information literacy interventions affect learning across the K-12 and higher education continuum. Within the fields of teacher education and educational technology, Alex is particularly interested in how libraries and information literacy education are integrated into K-12 virtual schooling environments, and how K-12 teachers are prepared to teach online.
