  • In 2013, after having led the library's instruction programming for six years, Alex became the University Library's associate director for instruction and research services. Alex holds a secondary appointment within AU's School of Education (SOE), where he serves as the SOE librarian and affiliate associate professor. Alex teaches courses on educational technology or children's literature each semester in SOE's teacher education programs. Additionally, Alex serves as the librarian for the College of Arts and Sciences Department of Health Studies.

    Alex joined the American University faculty in 2004 after previously working within library systems at the National Gallery of Art, the University of Maryland, College Park, and at the University of Florida. Alex earned tenure and promotion in 2011. His additional background in TESOL assists campus-wide efforts to teach international students about American standards of academic integrity and scholarly communication. His research focuses on K-12 and higher education library services that pertain to information literacy, virtual schooling, and service learning initiatives.
