Robert Connelly

Adjunct Professorial Lecturer Department of Sociology

Bob Connelly is an adjunct professorial lecturer of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies. Bob received his M.F.A. in Film and Electronic Media at American University, and began teaching gay and lesbian film theory and history in the school’s Department of Film and Media Arts in 2001 before joining WGSS to teach LGBT history beginning in 2006. He has authored numerous articles on media representations of the LGBT community for The Advocate, the Independent Feature Project, and AU’s Center for Media & Social Impact. As a research manager for National Geographic Channel for 10 years, Bob oversaw the production of commissioned documentaries to ensure factual accuracy, editorial integrity, and overall compliance with the standards and practices of National Geographic Society and applicable U.S. and international broadcasting regulations.
