Critical Race, Gender and Culture Studies Collaborative
Much of my research has been driven by a motivation to uncover the logic, contexts, and heritage that have shaped early Islamic discourse on gender and sexuality and continue to inform Muslim praxes today. My areas of research and teaching interests focus on issues pertaining to women, gender, and sexuality in the Middle East and in the classical Islamic tradition, scriptural hermeneutics, and the development of Islamic law and religious authority.
