Internships

Washington and the surrounding area offer numerous opportunities for gaining practical experience through internships. We encourage both undergraduate majors and graduate students to do at least one internship as part of their study of history. Students have the choice to do internships for academic credit. Students in the M.A. track in Public History must do at least 3 credits of internship as part of their degree.

The Department of History at American has a strong placement record for internships. Our faculty is well networked into the local historical community and can assist you in identifying your interests and the historical institutions that will allow you to explore those interests.
