Inaugural Patrick Clendenen Conference, March 25–26, 2008
"With Vision Flying": New Perspectives on Women's & Gender History
The title of our
conference, “With Vision Flying”: New Perspectives on Women’s
and Gender History, is inspired by the words of poet Rachel Luzzatto Morpurgo.
In an untitled 1867 poem, she faced the future “with
vision flying/And brow upraised to look upon the sun.” So too does this
Inaugural Patrick Clendenen Conference at American University gaze forward “with
vision flying” toward new directions in women’s and gender history.
The conference is sponsored by AU History, Women's & Gender Studies, and College
of Arts & Sciences.
