Public History, Oral History, History of Science

Dr. Henson is Director of the Institutional History Division, Smithsonian Institution Archives, where she directs the Oral History Program and serves as the Institution's historian. She received the Ph.D. in History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Maryland and the B.A. and M.A. in American Studies from The George Washington University. She has taught oral history seminars at American University, The George Washington University and the University of Maryland. She is the author of many articles, essays, and reviews on the history of the Smithsonian, history of museums, oral history methodology, and history of science, especially the history of natural history and history of women in science. She has also curated numerous exhibits. Her current research project is on the use of photographs as research resources in the history of science.
