May 2002 Good News!

Faculty:

Deborah Cohen gave a lecture at the Charlotte Museum of the South entitled, "Cathedral to Commerce: Shopping in the Victorian Metropolis." Deb also received a book contract from Routledge for a book co-edited with Maura O'Connor entitled, Comparison and History: Europe in Cross-National Perspective (projected publication May 2003).

Laura Kamoie was hired as the historian/writer for the Adams Morgan Heritage Trail for the summer of 2002. Her second issue of Washington History was published featuring a theme on the 1902 McMillan Plan, and she was honored by the Career Center with the Internship Faculty of the Month Award for May. Finally, her conference paper, "Diversification and Entrepreneurship in the Colonial South: Reassessing the Transformative Nature of the American Revolution," has been selected for inclusion in the Library Company of Philadelphia's conference volume to be edited by Cathy Matson.

Students:

Ted Andrews received a summer internship at the Newport Historical Society.

Lynette Garrett received a Graduate Academic Award from the AU Office of Multicultural Affairs. Lynette also received a Ford Foundation Summer Internship in Public History at George Washington's Mount Vernon.

Rebecca Vinyard received a Ford Foundation Summer Internship in Public History at George Washington's Mount Vernon.

Bernard Unti received the Outstanding Scholar at the Graduate Level award at the University Honors Convocation. Michael Fisher received the award for Outstanding Service to the University Community.
