Please join American University's Initiative for Russian Culture as it explores and celebrates the role of cultural exchange and cooperation in international relations. Our speakers will be the General Director and Artistic Director of the Mariinsky Theatre, Principal Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra, and Artistic Director of the White Nights Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia, Maestro Valery Gergiev and John R. Beyrle, former US Ambassador to Russia (2008-2012) and Bulgaria (2005-2008). The evening will begin with a buffet dinner on the mezzanine of the Great Hall of the Library of Congress. After the reception, Maestro Gergiev and Ambassador Beyrle will make 15-20 minute remarks about the role of the arts and cultural diplomacy in international relations in the Coolidge Auditorium, followed by a Q&A moderated by the Executive Director of AU’s Initiative for Russian Culture Dr. Anton Fedyashin. The evening will conclude in the Great Hall with a spectacular dessert and a performance by Mariinsky artists.
