Marathon Film Screening of *War and Peace* at the Russian Embassy (Updated 11/7/12)

The most famous Soviet film adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's novel was released in four parts in 1966 and 1967. Sergei Bondarchuk directed the series, co-wrote the script and starred in the leading role of Pierre Bezukhov, alongside Vyacheslav Tikhonov as Andrei Bolkonsky and Ludmila Savelyeva as Natasha Rostova. Produced by Mosfilm studios between 1961 and 1967, the film was the most expensive production ever made in the Soviet Union. Upon its release, it became a success with the audiences, attracting some 135 million viewers in the USSR. War and Peace also won the Grand Prix in the Moscow International Film Festival, the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

This event at the Russian Embassy is open to all AU and DC Consortium undergraduate and graduate students, and guests, who must RSVP individually via IRC@american.edu by noon on Monday, 05 November. Please include your school affiliation and graduate or undergraduate status. Students must bring their university and government-issued ID's. Business attire is required. Transportation from AU, Georgetown, GW, and UMD (College Park) will be arranged. Please see below for pick-up times and locations.

Please note that you will enter through the Tunlaw Gate, 2641 Tunlaw Road NW.


Shuttle Times and Locations
Times listed below are departure times. Please be at the pick-up location before the departure time.

American University: 9:30 a.m. at the main Shuttle Stop (behind Letts Hall, southern edge of campus)
University of Maryland (College Park): 9:00 a.m. on Union Lane between the Stamp Student Union Building, Cole Student Activities Center, and Visitor Garage.
Georgetown U: 9:15 a.m. in Lot 3 by the tennis courts.
George Washington U: 9:15 a.m. at 22nd and G Streets, NW.
George Mason U: 9:00 a.m. at the Sandy Creek Shuttle Stop
University of Maryland, Baltimore County: 8:45 a.m. at Hilltop Circle at the Flagpole
Howard University: 9:30 a.m. at the 6th Street entrance of the Mordecai Johnson Administration Building.

Return Shuttles: Return shuttles will be available at 6:30 p.m. for all universities.
