DC Jewish Life

Many major national Jewish advocacy groups have offices located in Washington because the city is a hub of political and social activity. Students at American University can take advantage of the network of Jewish communal and cultural life in Washington by attending the DCJCC's annual Jewish film and music festivals, and engaging in Jewish political advocacy through work on campus and off with such organizations as AIPAC, Hadassah's Washington Office, and the Religious Action Center.

Prominent local organizations include:

American Jewish Press Association
Anti-Defamation League
B'nai B'rith International
DC Jewish Community Center
Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society
Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington
Jewish Federation of Greater Washington
Jewish Historical Society of Greater Washington
Jewish Labor Committee
Jewish Peace Lobby
Jews United for Justice
National Council of Jewish Women
National Jewish Democratic Council
Republican Jewish Coalition
Women's International Zionist Organization
Zionist Organization of America

These groups offer opportunities for community involvement outside the classroom, in almost any field of interest. Visit their Web sites to find out what opportunities the organization offers and how to become involved.
