Josette WismanAssociate Professor of French Professor Wisman's research interests include Medieval and Renaissance literature, French language, civilization and history. Her dissertation highlighted the nascent humanism of the 15th century as seen in France's first professional woman writer, Christine de Pizan. Professor Wisman has published Christine de Pizan's Epistle on the Prison of Human Life, and many articles on Christine de Pizan's sources, and her political and social ideas. She has also published her research on modern authors and their ideological discourse. She also studied gender and death issues in the Dances Macabres. Her works have appeared in Romantic Review, the Journal of Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Medium Aevum, Le Moyen Français, La Revue Historique, Manuscripta, Romanische Forshungen, French Review, Le Moyen Age, Catalogus Translationum et Commentariorum, and others. A native of France, she was raised in Germany and studied at the Université de Strasbourg, American University, the Université de Poitiers, and the Catholic University of America. |
