From Sherburne Laughlin, Arts Management Program Director:
Since 1974, the graduate Arts Management program has trained students for careers in nonprofit performing and visual arts organizations, as well as government organizations on the front lines of national and international cultural policy. The goals of this program are to train students for success in the arts management jobs of the future—in a wide range of administrative, managerial and leadership positions—and to help them become effective advocates for the arts. After graduation our students, who enjoy a nearly 100% job placement rate, become leaders in arts organizations and communities all over the country, as well as internationally.
The requirements for the Masters in Arts Management, as well as the Graduate Certificate Program, are intentionally flexible and cross-disciplinary. This allows students to choose and design a focused program of courses that best meet the needs of the individual, in careful consultation with a faculty advisor. While we are based administratively in the Department of Performing Arts, our course of study encompasses both visual and performing arts. Our seasoned faculty, who have been drawn from the field and academe, offer a wide range of courses, from Financial Management to Arts and the City—read full Arts Management Director's Letter. We have also added an innovative new Certificate in International Arts Management.
