Alliance for Quality Urban Education Initial Licensure Programs

AQUE is a partnership among key stakeholders in teacher education in the District of Columbia. The goal of AQUE is to improve student achievement through a comprehensive teacher preparation model, designed to support the ongoing development of a highly qualified teaching force.

Through AQUE, American University’s School of Education in the College of Arts and Sciences is able to provide DC Public and DC Public Charter School teachers at different levels in their career with professional development opportunities.

New DC Public and DC Public Charter School teachers can gain licensure while being supported by supervising faculty and mentor teachers. To learn more about the specific components of this program and the tuition discount, click on a program below:

Elementary Education, Secondary Education and ESOL Licensure Program- Courses Begin Spring 2009 - Applications due December 8, 2008.

Developing and Experienced DC Public and DC Public Charter School teachers who have been in the classroom for at least three years have the opportunity to take American University courses to build their content knowledge. Experienced teachers have the opportunity to take preparation workshops for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification as well as content courses.
