Master Degree Options for Teach for America Corps Members, Alumni and Staff

American University is partnering with Teach for America to offer Master degree options to TFA corps members, alumni and staff. TFA affiliated participants will be able to choose from degrees in the School of Education, Teaching & Health (SETH) and the School of Public Affairs (SPA). These programs include flexible course delivery, a cohort based design, and discounted tuition, and are designed to meet the needs of working professionals.

Overview of Program Options

  • Master of Education (MEd) in Curriculum and Instruction in Educational Policy and Leadership (30 credits)

  • Dual Degree: Master of Education (MEd) in Curriculum and Instruction in Educational Policy and Leadership (24 credits), and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) (24 credits)

  • Dual Degree: Master of Education (MEd) in Curriculum and Instruction in Educational Policy and Leadership (24 credits) and a Master of Public Policy (MPP) (24 credits)

Admission Requirements of the MEd in Education Policy and Leadership

  • an online application form submitted by April 1 for priority review,

  • official transcripts (sealed) from any institutions previously attended,

  • GRE scores (required for MEd, MPA and MPP) – please send electronically using GRE school code: 8439 (no department code)

  • letter of intent (which can be included on the on-line application form) written by the applicant related to his or her background and career interests.

SETH will waive the application fee and the letters of recommendation requirement. TFA corps members should have had at least one full year of full time teaching experience at the time of enrollment.

Timeline

The application deadline is April 1 for priority review for Summer or Fall enrollment. After April 1, applications will be processed on a rolling admissions basis. Applications for Fall enrollment will be accepted until August 1st.
