Writing Center | Support for Graduate Students

Individual Coaching Sessions

Our first and primary support for students. Grad students meet with a trained graduate student writing consultant for individualized, one-to-one help. Students may schedule 2 sessions per week, and we recommend that students set up a series of appointments with one consultant to work on longer projects.

Graduate Student Writing Workshops

Each semester, we will offer some workshops aimed especially at graduate students—eg. Literature Review, Proposal Writing—through the Graduate Studies Enhancement Program. We also will offer programs in partnership with other campus resources which are intended to support the specific writing challenges of theses and dissertations.

Graduate Student Writing Groups

In Spring, 2013, we hope to begin a pilot program in which we’ll sponsor peer writing groups. Consultants will act as facilitators for a small group of students who meet regularly to share their work (peer review). Writing groups provide participants with a community of writers as well as a sense of accountability.

Our graduate writing consultants

  • are skillful coaches, able to help with key writing issues such as clarity, focus, organization, and syntax.
  • can offer the helpful feedback of an objective audience.
  • are available to work with you up to two times a week.
  • maintain a consistent schedule all semester, so you can set up a regular weekly appointment time.
