On December 9, President Kerwin hosted receptions for the August and December 2011 graduates; photos of the reception for graduating seniors and the reception celebrating masters and doctoral degree recipients are available online.

American University celebrated commencement May 7-8, 2011. Speakers included Sen. Dick Lugar, astronomer Vera Rubin, newscaster Bob Schieffer, White House economic advisor Gene Sperling, and Peace Corps director Aaron Williams.
