A survey of European art from 1900 to 1945, tracing radical changes in conception of art as well as social and political contexts that shaped it. Includes the rise of abstraction; antimodernism and the "primitive"; and the notion of an artistic avant-garde. Meets with ARTH-613. Usually offered alternate years. Prerequisite: ARTH-105 and ARTH-210.
