Topics vary by section, may be repeated for credit with different topic. Rotating topics in art historical fields include medieval art, Renaissance/Baroque art, Nineteenth to Twentieth Century European art, American contemporary art, and Asian art. Critical discussion of readings followed by reports and research papers. Usually offered every spring. Prerequisite: five art history courses or permission of instructor.

Renaissance Bodies

This seminar explores representations of the body in Italian early modern art. The issue of corporeality in art is examined in a range of signifying categories, including gender, sexuality, sanctity, criminality, classicism, and exoticism, as well as from multiple interdisciplinary perspectives, including literary, scientific, theological, and artistic.
