Advanced Research and Project Development
PhD in Communication students complete the research and writing of their dissertation proposals, convene the meeting with their dissertation committees for approval of the proposal, and successfully complete the comprehensive exam, in order to advance to candidacy. Prerequisite: COMM-796 Seminar in Doctoral Research.

Seminar in Doctoral Research
PhD students conduct the literature reviews for their dissertation proposals, refine topics, develop their research designs, and prepare for their comprehensive exams. The course also covers publishing research in peer-reviewed journals and books; identifying funding sources for supporting research; and writing grant proposals. Prerequisite: admission to PhD in Communication.

Quantitative Analysis for Communication
Provides basic training in a variety of large sample multivariate data analysis procedures, including contingency tables, measures of association, scale construction, linear and logistic regression, and mediation and moderation models. Examples and data are drawn from the communication literature. Prerequisite: COMM-751 or permission of the instructor.
