The analysis of established nation-states in Europe and Asia, emphasizing their inherent variety in form and purpose, and the informal cultural and social institutions that create, support, and transform them. Special focus on developing students' ability to explain the behavior of state actors using modern theories of individual choice and strategic interaction. Emphasis is on class discussion.
