DIY: Record Company and Music Publishing Operations for Independent Artists and Writers (3) This course explores how record companies and music publishing companies are run, forecast their revenues, and control their expenses. As a learning lab, students participate in the operation of Second District Records and ATA Records. Students also research and investigate resources that are available to independent artists and writers to exploit their creations through both traditional and non-traditional companies catering to the distribution, marketing, promotion and sale of music. Students also study how the conversion from analog to digital has changed the landscape for recording artists and songwriters. Prerequisite: MGMT-301, and MGMT-302 or MGMT-303 or MGMT-305.
