Acoustics: Physics of Sound (3) This course examines the physical nature of sound waves in real environments as well as the physiological and psychological aspects of sound as we experience it. Students engage in both the theoretical description of sound, as well as conducting experiments to determine the behavior of acoustic systems. The course first covers essential acoustic knowledge that touches on every area of music and audio processing, and then covers more in-depth topics related to students' particular interests within audio technology. The course culminates with students conducting and presenting a research project in a specific area of acoustics and sound. Permission: instructor. Meets with ATEC-596 901 ATEC-596 902.

1970s British Recording Techniques (3) This course examines the development of music recording techniques in 1970's era Britain as typified by recordings from classic rock groups such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Queen and their producers and engineers such as Jimmy Page, Eddie Kramer, Alan Parsons and Roy Thomas Baker. The course includes critical listening, lecture, discussion, hands-on recording using methods created during the period, and in some cases using software simulations in place of analog equipment. Permission: instructor. Meets with ATEC-596 903 ATEC-596 904.
