Frederick Douglass Distinguished Scholarships are awarded to exceptional students who are dedicated to improving underserved and under- resourced communities around the world. Outstanding undergraduates from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, they are committed to excellence, social justice, and active citizenship, seeking creative solutions to the world’s most pressing problems. Frederick Douglass Scholars are selected on the basis of high academic achievement, leadership potential, and demonstrated community service.
The Frederick Douglass Distinguished Scholars Program is AU’s premier academic community for our top students, who are diverse in their gender, age, race, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomic status, physical ability, sexual orientation, and religion. We intentionally foster a respectful learning environment in which Douglass scholars come together to share a greater purpose, develop their potential, and contribute to the larger AU community and the world.
