Albino Alligators!

This is an information page about albino alligators.

What is an albino?
An albino is an organism that has the genetic disorder called albinism. Albinism is a hereditary trait that is defined as a deficiency of melanin production that results in the absence of pigmentation from the skin, hair, and eyes. Melanin is the substance that gives an organism its pigmentation, or skin color.

DID YOU KNOW ... ?
...that even albino animals can get a nasty sunburn?
The lack of melanin under the animal's skin
makes it difficult for the animal to absorb
the sun's ultraviolet rays.  I recommend that they use
LOTS of aloe vera after a day in the sun!
