Storm Aftermath Update

Good morning AU community,

The worst of the storm seems to be behind us here in the Washington, D.C. area, so we turn our attention to assessing the damage and focusing on clean-up efforts.

Overnight Assessments
From initial overnight assessments, our campus experienced no major damage. There was an isolated temporary loss of Internet connectivity in Leonard Hall which has been restored; a water leak near the campus store, which has been contained; and about a dozen students have reported water leaks in their residence hall rooms, which facilities staff are responding to.

Reminder: if you are experiencing a leak or other problem in a campus building, please call 2FIX (x2349) to report the problem to the Facilities Management staff. If you live in a residence hall, it is also helpful to inform your RA. Please keep in mind that 2FIX/FM is receiving a high volume of calls around campus and to expect minor delays in responding to the scene.

Campus Services for Tuesday
As a reminder, please note the status of the following campus services:

  • AU shuttles will not operate on Tuesday.
  • Bender Library will be open from noon to 7 p.m. with minimal operations, and will provide Reference IM/Chat services from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Terrace Dining Room and Tenley Café will operate on a weekend schedule.
  • The Eagle's Nest will open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Next Steps
Throughout the day, university staff will continue to evaluate the condition of the campus and roads and public transportation in the surrounding area, and the predicted ongoing impact of this weather emergency in order to determine the operating status of the university for Wednesday. A decision will be announced by early evening.

We thank everyone for their patience during this weather emergency and hope that everyone continues to stay safe.
