Work Study

From time to time there are employment opportunities for students in offices of the University Architect and Facilities Management. Persons interested in working with the Campus Arboretum should contact Mark Feist at 202-885-2348.

Internships

Each summer the Arboretum hires one or more internships to work in the grounds management division. These are hands on learning opportunities. If interested contact Mark Feist at 202-885-2348.

Adopt a Spot Program

If you or your organization have a place on campus that has special meaning to you, consider adopting that location. This program is available to students, faculty and staff and alumni. Each year, adopt a spot groups spend a few hours working side by side with Grounds Management staff to care for their special spot.  These events are excellent learning and team building opportunities designed to give you a better understanding and appreciation for the campus arboretum. Interested groups are encouraged to participate in the Adopt a Spot program. Groups are recognized in campus publications and by a plaque installed at their adopted location.

Campus Beautification Day

Each April, between 400-500 students, faculty, staff, alumni and neighbors come together to for a fun filled day as they participant in several activities designed to educate and beautify the campus. Proudly wearing their new Campus Beautification Day shirts, participants are treated to a catered lunch and the opportunity to win one of the many exciting door prizes awarded each year. Under the guidance of Grounds Management staff, volunteers work to a variety of beautification and sustainability projects. Recent projects included the reforestation of the Katzen slope, stream restoration in the amphitheatre and the installation of the Roper pocket park.
