Office of University Architect Updates for June 18, 2008

Office of University Architect (UA) – Jerry Gager

School of International Service (SIS): Excavation is proceeding. The current position is about ten feet from the bottom of the planned excavation. Pile driving is about 75% complete and is expected to be finished by mid June. The footing to grade permit has been issued. The main building permit is expected by the end of June or early July. Completion date is March 2010.

Kogod Building Expansion – New Lecture Hall: The Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) installation is about 50% complete. Interior construction is progressing. The steam line construction is expected to restart by June 11. The anticipated completion date is January 2009.

Mary Graydon Center (MGC) Exterior Improvements: The project permit has been obtained. The temporary ramp has been installed. Demolition is nearly complete. Footings are expected to be poured this week for the bridge. This phase of the renovation project is scheduled for summer 2008. The canopy will be constructed during winter break 2008. The emergency exit paths from Butler Pavilion has been reviewed and a missing exit signs will be installed at the Butler 3rd floor lobby into the MGC emergency stair.

Class of 2006 Gift: Orders have been placed for the base construction, precast caps and directory map box.

Katzen Museum Store: UA is working with the College of Arts and Sciences to obtain the Certificate of Occupancy.

Katzen – Condensation: UA is working with an architectural firm to prepare a solution to window condensation evident during very cold winter weather. Other areas will be monitored during the coming winter to assure correction of all condensation issues.

Welcome Center Renovation: The design has been developed with the Admissions Office for improvements to the Centennial Hall Welcome Center location and will be incorporated into the summer construction project. Temporary Welcome Center facilities have been constructed in the music ensemble room at the Katzen Arts Center. The Welcome Center will move back to Centennial Hall in mid August 2008.

Bender Library Furniture and Remodeling:
The design has been developed with the Library leadership and staff to replace selected furniture and remodel and upgrade selected areas of the Bender Library lower level. Chairs have been replaced and pricing received for the remodeling efforts which are expected to be complete by August. Furniture deliveries may extend into the fall 2008 semester.
