All university employees -
full-and part-time faculty, staff and student
employees - are strongly encouraged to direct
their net pay to any financial institution
in the United States. The benefits of direct
deposit are many:
-
Convenience. You don’t
have to go to the bank to cash or deposit
your check.
-
Safety. There is no worry about lost,
stolen, or misplaced checks. Several individuals
every year ask for replacement checks because
they ran theirs through the laundry!
-
Reliability.
Your money will be available on the last
workday of the month, but paychecks sent
by mail might take several days to reach
your bank. Also, your money will be deposited
even when you are sick or out of town.
-
Money
Management. You can choose to have your
paycheck directly deposited into more than
one account at your bank (part of your money
into checking and part into a savings account).
If you select your EagleBuck$ card, your
full pay will be deposited to the EagleBuck$
account, and is subject to the current EagleBuck$
policy.
A number of banks in the area are available
to provide direct deposit and other banking
services. Chevy Chase Bank, http://www.chevychasebank.com,
located in the Butler Pavilion Shops, offers
exclusive banking packages for AU full-time
and student employees with direct deposit,
including free checking for two years.
As of November 1, 2003, students can choose
the option of depositing their university pay
into their EagleBuck$ account, to use at participating
campus vendors as well as off-campus retailers
(see http://www.eaglebucks.com for more information).
It is easy to set up a direct deposit account.
Please go to your web portal, my.american.edu,
click Employment, HR/Payroll Online, Direct Deposit Information. Fill out the form and click submit. You will receive a confirmation via email from the Payroll Office when your direct deposit has been processed.
