Register my bicycle with Public Safety
Students, faculty and staff: fill out this online form, then visit the Public Safety building to pick up your registration sticker. Please remember to bring your AU ID with you when you pick up your registration.
For additional questions call 202.885.3111 or stop by the Public Safety building between the hours of 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
Request temporary access to a building
For students, we require confirmation of a room reservation, or an e-mail from a professor, in order to grant students temporary access to a building. For semester access, have your professor e-mail us, and we will provide access on the student's ID card.
For faculty or staff members, we require an e-mail from a director in your office detailing that you have permission to use a specific building or room.

Request a camera, electronic lock, or security survey
Requests for a security survey or any security-related devices, including cameras and electronic locks, should be sent to access@american.edu
Request a hospital transport
Call Public Safety's emergency line at 202.885.3636. Public Safety officers will respond and evaluate your condition. If they determine your condition is a medical emergency, DCFD will be contacted to assess you and determine whether a hospital transport is necessary. If this is this case, you will be transported by ambulance to the hospital.
Request a cab voucher to the hospital
Call 202-885-2527 to speak with a Communications Specialist who will assist you with getting a cab voucher.
Request a copy of a police report
Send an e-mail with your name and case information to dps@american.edu.
File a police report
Visit the Public Safety office (across from the south side shuttle stop) or call our dispatch office at 202.885.2527 and an officer will be sent to you to take a report.
Request security for a special event
Send an e-mail with all of the specifics of the event to dps@american.edu. Please try to provide at least a few days advance notice of special event security requests.
Request special patrols for a building or space
Special patrols through a specific building or space will be deployed automatically in the event of a spike in crimes occurring in that area. To request specific patrols for a special event, send an e-mail to dps@american.edu.
