Parking Lot Information

General Parking Lot Information

General parking is available at American University for AU community members, visitors and guests of the University at the following locations: 

  • Nebraska Avenue Commuter Lot at the intersection of Nebraska and New Mexico Avenues, NW
  • Katzen Arts Center Garage on Massachusetts Avenue, NW (just off Ward circle)

Parking is enforced Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM. Parking is $1.50 per hour or $12.00 per day. Free parking is available after-hours and on weekends in these lots. Starting May 1, 2011 parking will be $2.00 per hour or $16.00 per day.

Faculty/Staff Parking Lot Information

Full-Time/Part-Time faculty and staff and WCL faculty and staff are welcome to park in the following locations with a valid AU Full-Time/Part-Time permit or WCL faculty permit: Sports Center Garage, Hamilton Parking Lot, Kreeger/Watkins Parking Lot, Public Safety Roadway, Financial Aid, Beeghly Roadway, Asbury Lot, Asbury Roadway, McDowell Roadway, Clark Parking Lot, Tenley Parking Lot, Katzen Garage, and Nebraska Lot. Spaces are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Adjunct faculty and staff with a valid Adjunct Faculty permit are required to park in Nebraska Avenue Commuter Lot or Katzen Arts Center Garage.

Parking in these locations is enforced Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM. Free parking is available after-hours and on weekends in these lots.

Resident Student Parking Lot Information

The following Resident Student Parking Lots are enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you are a student with a parking permit for the lots listed below, you may also park in the Nebraska Avenue Parking Lot or Katzen Garage with your valid Resident Student Parking Permit displayed properly on your vehicle.

Nebraska Hall Lot

Nebraska Hall Lot is a resident student-only lot. A Nebraska Hall permit is required to park in the spaces at all times. No other permit is valid in Nebraska Hall lot.

McDowell Hall Lot (McDowell Upper)

McDowell Hall Lot is a resident student-only lot. A McDowell Hall permit is required to park in the spaces at all times. No other permit is valid in McDowell Hall lot. Note: there is a row of spaces reserved strictly for faculty/staff parking.

Centennial Hall Parking Garage

Centennial Hall Parking Garage is a resident student-only lot. A Centennial Hall permit is required to park in this lot at all times. No other permit is valid in Centennial Hall Parking Garage.

Commuter Student Parking Lot Information

Commuter Students displaying a valid Commuter Student Permit are required to park in either the Nebraska Avenue Commuter Lot or in the Katzen Arts Center Garage. Spaces are also available for hourly and daily purchase at the Pay-As-You-Go machines located on either side of the parking lot.
