Purging Old or Unused Research Chemicals

What is a chemical purge?

A chemical purge is the disposal of a large quantity of chemical containers. A chemical purge differs from a typical chemical disposal in that the number or size of chemical containers is too great to be stored in the designated satellite waste storage area and special support is needed from Risk Management in managing the amount of waste to be collected.

How do I request a chemical purge for my laboratory?

Complete the Lab Cleanout Request Form. In the “List items to be removed” box, provide a general summary of the types of chemicals that are to be discarded.
