Guidelines

Hazardous waste must be handled according to national and local guidelines. No amount of hazardous waste may be thrown into the regular trash or poured down the sink. Please contact Environmental Health and Safety to arrange disposal of all hazardous waste.

Container Requirements

Hazardous waste must meet the following criteria in order to be accepted by EH&S:

  • Securely closed (no foil, parafilm, or stoppers)
  • Completed waste label
  • Placed in secondary containment in a designated waste area

EH&S provides waste containers upon request.

Labels

Hazardous waste must be marked with a completed AU hazardous waste label. EH&S can provide these labels upon request or they can be downloaded and printed on Avery 3-1/3" x 4" shipping labels.

Waste Collection Areas

Hazardous waste is collected in designated areas in the Beeghly stock room and in Hurst 106B.

For larger amounts of waste that cannot be easily transported or stored in the waste collections areas, please request a waste pick-up directly from your laboratory.
