EMERGENCY DURING
AN INTERNATIONAL CRISIS

In the event of an emergency while participating in a university-sponsored international activity, the following procedures are recommended:

  • Contact the nearest US consular service for direct assistance
  • Contact American University’s on-site program director or staff
  • Contact the World Capitals Program office (885-4900) in Washington, DC for WCP activities or the Career Center (885-1800) for coops, internships, and externships.

If medical attention is necessary, go to the nearest hospital or clinic or to the service provider recommended by participant’s health insurance company. If participants are covered by private insurance in the United States, participants should know the proper procedures for health and accident claims while overseas.
