The American Installment Plan (AIP) allows full-time students who are attending both the Fall and Spring Semesters to spread their yearly out-of-pocket costs over 12 or 10 months.
To participate in the AIP plan, the student must have at least a flat-rate tuition charge (i.e. full-time undergraduate, law and MBA students taking 12 or more credits). Full-time Graduate students taking at least 9 credit hours per semester are also eligible for this plan.
Student expenses that can be included in the AIP calculation include tuition and fees, housing, meal plans, course fees, health insurance, and program fees. These charges are calculated on a two semester basis, and are offset by any financial aid, scholarships, or other credits. (Note: All Work Study and stipends go directly to the student and are not to be factored into the financial aid on the AIP Plan). The difference (Yearly AIP Budget) is then divided by 12 or 10 equal payments which are due on the first of each month. The payments for the 12 month plan begin on May 1st and end on April 1st. Payments for the 10 month plan begin on June 1st and end on March 1st. Once the AIP application is received by Student Accounts, the student will receive payment coupons with the monthly amount due printed on them. These coupons should be included with the monthly payment. If monthly payments are not received by the 15th of the month, a late fee of $40 will be charged to the account.
The application and a $60 non-refundable processing fee is required with your first monthly installment. If the application is submitted after the first payment due date, your initial payment should include all missed payments. Student Accounts stops accepting AIP applications on August 1st of each year. AIP applications are available in the Student Accounts Office (Asbury 300) or by calling (202) 885-3541 to request a mailed or faxed application. The application is also available for download by clicking the .PDF link below.
