E-Payment

Payments to your student account are accepted online via e-payment. This payment option is available on your student portal at https://my.american.edu. The e-payment link is located under “Finances”, on the right side navigation menu, and the link can only be seen when you are logged into the web site, under “Personalized Links”.

When you click the e-payment link, a new window will open (make sure to disable pop-up windows in your web browser).

Type in the amount you wish to pay, followed by the bank account number, the routing number and the name the primary account holder. Be sure to specify whether this account is a checking or savings account by selecting either from the drop-down box. Please remember to double-check that each number is correct, and that the account number and routing number are in the correct boxes. Do not place spaces or dashes in the account or routing numbers. When this is complete, click on submit to send payment.

Most checks will display the bank routing number and bank account number as outlined in the example below. However, a few check companies may display this information in a different manner on your checks. When making an e-payment, please ensure that you use your correct ABA and account numbers.

E-payments made with incorrect numbers will not be recognized by your financial institution, and the payment will “bounce” within one to five business days, and you will be assessed a $25 returned check fee. For savings accounts, and other questions concerning your personal bank accounts, please contact your financial institution. 

Please note that American University does not accept credit/debit cards for any student account payments, and credit/debit cards cannot be used with the e-payment system.
