GENERAL
PARKING and TRAFFIC REGULATIONS:
These regulations are applicable to all members
of the University Community – faculty, staff, Students, visitors,
contractors, and vendors.
A. Use of permits
are enforced on campus and in the
Nebraska Commuter Lot and Katzen Garage
from 8:00am until 5:00pm Mondays through
Fridays.
B.
Restricted and resident student lot permits are enforced 24 hours
a day, seven days a week.
C. Sports Center
garage permits are enforced from 8:00am
until 5:00pm Mondays through Fridays.
D. Valid handicapped
license plates or permits must be
displayed when a vehicle is parked
in a handicapped space.
E. Visitors with
a handicapped permit or state handicapped
license plates are exempt from depositing
coins in to Pay-As-You-Go anywhere
on campus. (Does not apply to faculty,
staff, and students).
F. Vehicles with
Diplomatic plates are not exempt
from AU’s parking and traffic regulations.
G. Public Safety
is authorized to move or impound any
vehicle that is illegally or improperly
parked on University property.
H. Vehicles with
three or more unpaid tickets may be
impounded/immobilized 30 days after
the third ticket is issued.
I. When a vehicle
is immobilized (booted) all unpaid
fees must be paid before the vehicle
is released.
J. Parking is issued
on a first-come, first-serve basis.
When the maximum capacity of the parking
facilities have been reached, permit
sales will be suspended until space
again becomes available. Persons desiring
parking in a specific lot will be
placed on a waiting list.
K. When parked, the
motor vehicle must be within the boundaries
of the single parking space used.
The fact that other motor vehicles
may have parked improperly does not
constitute an excuse for parking any
part of the motor vehicle outside
the space boundaries.
L. Vehicles may not
be double-parked or parked in any
position, which prevents adjacent
vehicles from exiting their legal
parking space.
M. Motorcycles must
register their motorcycle with Transportation
Services and purchase a permit. Motorcycle
permits allow a motorcycle to park
in any faculty/staff space on campus,
including the Sports Center Garage.
Additional designated motorcycle parking
is provided in the Centennial Garage.
N. The owner-of-record
and/or the individual registering
a vehicle with the University is responsible
for all University parking citations
written against that vehicle regardless
of the identity of the driver at the
time of the violation.
O. Any vehicle parked
in a fire-lane zone, driveway, roadway,
or any area not specifically marked,
as a legal parking area will be subject
to citation and may be booted or impounded.
P. "Service" and
"Loading" spaces are enforced 24 hours
a day. Official University vehicles
as well as Service and Contractor
vehicles with the appropriate permits
are permitted to park in these designated
spaces.
Q. The speed limit
on University streets is 15 miles
per hour.
R. The speed limit
inside or on University parking facilities
is 10 miles per hour.
S. Except for University
vehicles, motor vehicles may be driven
only on roadways, and must observe
all applicable statutes and ordinances
of the District of Columbia and the
rules and regulations specific to
the University. Emergency vehicles
may operate on any surface are required
when making an emergency response.
T. Pedestrians will
be given the right-of-way at all times
except where traffic control lights
with pedestrian indicators are provided
(such as a crossing light at a traffic
signal).
U. Moving or driving
around University parking/traffic
control devices is strictly prohibited
and may constitute a violation of
District law as well as these regulations.
V. Bicycles &
Scooters
1. Bicycles
must
be registered with
Public Safety.
2. When ridden
on streets or in areas intended for
use by motor vehicles, bicycle riders
will observe all "rules of the road"
applicable to those motor vehicles.
3. When parked,
bicycles must be in bicycle racks
or other spaces or areas designated
for their use. Bicycles must be parked
clear of sidewalks, ramps, building
entrances and handrails/fences. xxxx

Scooters are not required to purchase
a parking permit, however they must
park in bicycle racks only.
