The Net Price Calculator is a tool for students and parents to use to get an estimate of what it may cost annually to attend American University. Please note that the information you receive from the calculator is a broad estimate. Many factors come into play when awarding financial aid. This calculator is limited to providing the median grant amount awarded to student within wide parameters and does not take into consideration academic achievement, deadlines, special circumstances and funding levels.
American University offers institutional need based grants/scholarships ranging from $2,000-$36,000 annually. For a thorough and personalized evaluation of your family's financial circumstances, please complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a CSS Profile Application. It is also important to note that the net price calculator does not incorporate Federal Stafford Loans or Federal Work-Study into its financial aid calculations. Students who file a FAFSA may be eligible for low interest, deferred loans through the Federal Direct Lending Program. Loan amounts vary based on a student's dependency status and grade level in school. For information regarding Federal Stafford Loan amounts and requirements, please go to http://www.american.edu/financialaid/freshmanprospects.cfm.
COST OF ATTENDANCE AU's cost of attendance provides a comprehensive view of anticipated expenses that students may incur. The cost of attendance includes the average tuition, fees, room and board as well as transportation, supplies and miscellaneous expenses. While freshman are not required to live on campus, nearly all freshman live in institutionally controlled housing.
