Is financial aid available for summer sessions?

Below is information regarding summer aid for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Undergraduate Students Enrolled in 4 year Programs

Institutional need-based aid will not be available for the 2024 summer sessions. If you would like to utilize federal loans to help meet your summer 2024 educational expenses, be sure to file a 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In addition, please complete the following steps:

  1. File a AU Summer Aid Application, available April 1.
  2. Submit any additional documents listed on the portal under the "Financial Aid: My Documents" Web page.
  3. Enroll on at least half-time basis. Half time during the summer session is defined as 6 credits for undergraduate enrollment.
  4. Confirm with your academic advisor that your anticipated graduation date is accurate. Summer aid will not be awarded to students who are listed as having completed their program as of the end of the spring 2024 semester.
  5. If your are planning to use a Parent PLUS loan, be sure to have your parent submit the loan application online.

Offer letters will be available beginning in April. Federal financial aid offers will show as pending financial aid on your portal billing statement. These will remain as pending financial aid until you are enrolled at least half time, your courses have begun, and your 2023-2024 grades have been recorded and reviewed to ensure that you are meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). Once spring semester grades are available at the end of May, your SAP status will be reviewed. If you are failing SAP at that time, your aid for the summer will be canceled.
