The Eagle is launching a new UFUND campaign for 2015 after raising $13,000 last year. If we raise just $16,500 more this year, we will reach The Eagle's goal of $50,000 to establish an endowment to support the publication's digital innovation and long-term survival.
The Eagle is 90 years old this year and is in the midst of a digital transformation. In April, the staff launched The Eagle's first mobile app on iTunes. Now we must continue innovating. While print advertising used to pay the bills, the staff ceased printing weekly editions in 2013 and is building a new business model to sustain student journalism. The Eagle is now a digital-first publication. We want to provide information to our community in real time --publishing across multiple platforms, from your smartphone to your iPad and Kindle. So The Eagle is pursuing new revenue to innovate online, with video, social media and mobile apps.
As we change, we are continuing The Eagle’s tradition of excellence. The College Media Association just named The Eagle best newspaper for four-year universities of AU's size.
With your gift, you will help build a permanent endowment to sustain The Eagle in its digital future. If you gave last year, please make another tax-deductible gift to The Eagle this year. The staff needs funding to upgrade equipment and purchase video cameras, computers, software and digital tools to grow The Eagle’s audience with new ways to tell new stories. Students partnered with alumni to launch this fundraising effort. Now they need your help, too.
