The Dean of Students Office hosts AU's orientation program, Eagle Summit, each summer. With the changing demographic of students that includes more students from the South and the West and more students with high financial need, we would like to work on the accessibility of Eagle Summit for all new students.
Currently, we provide fee waivers for students that demonstrate high financial need. We know, however, that this fee waiver does not cover the true costs of attending Eagle Summit. Therefore, some students choose not to attend summer orientation due to financial need. This is unfortunate because we know that Eagle Summit prepares students to be successful at AU, allows students to begin forming relationships with other students, and enhances the university's retention efforts.
This travel scholarship was created to help offset travel costs for students who would like to attend Eagle Summit but do not have the financial means to travel to Washington, D.C. during the summer.
